Newtown News: The Special 50th Birthday Edition

You probably already know by now that this year has marked our 50th birthday. We’ve done plenty to celebrate including special discounts, events and competitions but we thought we’d recap on what the last 50 years has seen us achieve as a company.

A brief history of Newtown

From humble beginnings back in 1966, Newtown Motors was opened with just a dozen staff. Taking our name from the small town that we occupied in Cwmbran, our family-run company started off small. However, after building successful relationships with the likes of Rover, Chevrolet and Vauxhall, we were able to expand and grow our business. In 2012 we opened our dedicated Nissan Sales and Service Centre just across the road from our Cwmbran branch.

Yet it was this year, the year of our 50th birthday, that we experienced the most substantial growth and opened our brand new branch in Hereford. Opening in Spring of this year, our Hereford branch boasts the region’s most cutting-edge sales environments with technology and comfort combined to enhance the overall customer experience.

Needless to say, the past 50 years have seen our brand go from strength to strength; here’s to the next 50!

The best of British sport cars

Over the years, we’ve brought some of the most famous brands of sports cars to South East Wales. Back in 1969, we were appointed to represent MG in the region and this relationship continued for as long as the brand was made in the UK.

Since 2007, we've been the only official Morgan dealer in Wales, which allows us to bring Britain’s most iconic range of classic hand-built sports cars to the country. We were also appointed as the main dealers of Lotus in Wales back in 2015. The Evora and Elise have been welcome staples to our showrooms for the last year!

The future of motoring

With more and more emphasis being placed on the importance of green living and renewable energy, we’re delighted to supply the electric Nissan LEAF to one of the world’s most prestigious golf destinations, The Celtic Manor Resort.

The car is used to drive visitors around the 1,400-acre resort everyday. It does all this with a low level of noise so as to not disturb the golfers or disrupt play. With over 100 improvements on its predecessor, the LEAF is now more appealing, practical and affordable then ever before.

Award-winning customer service

We’ve always operated on the principle of offering customers a truly friendly service that is delivered with integrity and honesty. Our dedication to customer service has been a crucial factor in our success, and we’re delighted to have won awards to recognise this.

This year, we were awarded with the Motability award. This is the seventh time we’ve won regional award from the charity Motability. The Motability scheme is a charity that provides mobility solutions for people with disabilities and their families. It provides them with government-funded mobility allowance to lease a new car.

Over the last 50 years, we’ve won a number of awards that recognise our quality of service, including the Vauxhall First Award in 2015.

Keeping it local

Our chairman Glyn Davies is a former professional golfer, and as such, he has always been keen to show our support in helping local sports teams and community groups to flourish.

As a business that’s successfully grown over the past 50 years, we’re proud to support and sponsor various clubs within our community in order to help them to do the same. Recently we’ve sponsored Welsh cycling superstar, Becky James. We also support Newport Badminton Club and Garndiffaith Rugby Club. And that’s not to mention our successful Motor Sport Evenings that have become an important date in the local calendar.
